October, 2011 - Jail Diversion Substance Abuse (JDSA) Program

ADRC is pleased to announce inauguration of the Jail Diversion Substance Abuse (JDSA) Program in Hartford. The ADRC JDSA Program will provide on-site clinical assessments at both Hartford Superior Court GA-14 and Hartford Community Court and will case manage JDSA clients as they receive appropriate treatment services. The JDSA Program will follow the client's recovery progress working in collaboration with the court system. The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services oversees this program, which also includes a jail diversion program for persons who have been diagnosed with a mental illness.

Steven Diaz, LADC, will be the Project Manager of the JDSA initiative. Steve has been with ADRC in Outpatient Services since 2004. Steve is a member of the Mid-Level Administrators Group at ADRC [MLAG] and, over the last year, he has also served on the TiGr [trauma informed - gender responsive] Steering Committee.

The JDSA Program is a perfect complement to the array of services offered by ADRC - by enhancing ADRC's ability to reach out to substance abusing or dependent persons within the court system who are not yet receiving appropriate services. The JDSA Program has the ability to respond quickly to persons in need, making necessary assessments and referrals, performing case management services, and, in some cases, arranging for payment for services for persons lacking entitlements. We believe that this service adds important depth and breadth to our system of care.

September, 2010 - ADRC Receives Recognition from Gov. Rell for work with trauma survivors

Official Statement from Gov. M. Jodi Rell

Text of Official Statement:

By Her Excellency M. Jodi Rell, Governor: an Official Statement

On behalf of the State of Connecticut, I, M. Jodi Rell, Governor,
take great pleasure in congratulating the
Alcohol and Drug Recovery Centers (ADRC)
as you are honored by the
Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
for you
Dedication to the Recovery of Trauma Survivors in Connecticut.

This recognition is a testament
to your sustained commitment to the Trauma
Initiative for the past decade.

Growing awareness of the
long-term effects of a traumatic experience
has led to calls for the development of trauma-informed
and trauma-specific services. Human service systems have become agents
of hope by thoroughly incorporating, in all aspects of service delivery,
an understanding of the prevelence and impact of trauma
and the complex paths to healing and recovery.

Along with the citizens of the State
of Connecticut, I again want to thank you and
recognize you for the outstanding work you have done
to benefit survivors of psychological trauma.

August, 2010 - New ADRC website launched

After much planning, ADRC has launched a complete redesign of its web presence with an eye to making the site more useful to those seeking services for themselves or for a loved one, and for those seeking to make a referral to an ADRC program.

The new site is much easier to navigate and offers new features such as a site search feature, and Google Translate, which can do instant translation of site content into several different languages.

June, 2010 - Building Evaluation Capacity

Between June 2008 and June 2010, ADRC participated in a project sponsored by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, in their Nonprofit Support Program. The project, Building Evaluation Capacity, led by Dr. Anita Baker, instructs nonprofit organizations in the basics of doing program evaluation and developing evaluative thinking in the organization. The project culminated in the production of an evaluation report which focussed on an aspect of ADRC's Detoxification Center, and which was delivered as part of the project's "graduation ceremony".

April, 2010 - Trauma Informed Gender Responsive (TIGR) Care initiative begins

Alcohol & Drug Recovery Centers was one of three programs in the state of Connecticut selected to participate in the DMHAS sponsored Trauma Informed Gender Responsive Initiative [know as TiGr]. This Initiative is designed to provide two years of education and consultation in order to assist agencies in providing gender responsive care to women and men as well as services that are supportive to persons who have experienced trauma.

In April ADRC sent twenty staff members to two full days of specialized training on providing trauma informed and gender responsive care. In addition a TiGr Steering Committee has been created to oversee the process for implementing TIGr objectives throughout the Agency.

Most recently, on July 13, ADRC had a daylong consultation visit with Roger Fallot, Ph.D. of Washington, D.C., Stephanie Covington, Ph.D. of California, and Eileen Russo, MA, LADC. Dr. Fallot, in collaboration with other colleagues developed the M-TREM, a 24 session group treatment intervention for male survivors of trauma. Dr. Covington is a widely read author [e.g., Women and Addiction: A Gender-Responsive Approach] and nationally recognized consultant on gender responsive treatment and service for persons who have experienced trauma. Eileen Russo works with the Women’s’ Consortium in Hamden.
