    Who can come to the Intensive Residential Program?
  • Anyone 18 years of age or older.
  • Anyone living in Hartford or the Greater Hartford area [known as Region IV].
  • Anyone with SAGA or any other insurance that will pay your stay in treatment.
  • If you do not have insurance or an appropriate entitlement - please call for assistance, the program will determine your admission eligibility and refer you apply for applicable benefits.
    What are the requirements for admission to the program?
  • You need to be free from drugs of abuse and/or alcohol for at least 48 hours before admission to the program, or have completed a detox program in the last week.
  • A history of problems managing your use of alcohol and/or drugs of abuse.
  • If you have a mental health condition, you need to take your medication as prescribed and be stable enough to benefit from Intensive services.
  • If you have a medical problem, you need to take your medications as prescribed, be able to manage your medical condition on your own, and be stable enough to benefit from Intensive services.
  • Persons on methadone maintenance are welcome - Intensive services are "methadone friendly".
    What do I need to know about my stay in the program?
  • The program has 28 beds and you may stay up to 28 days (depending on authorization period). Program space is shared with 10 clients from the ADRC Intermediate Program.
  • You will attend an average of 21 groups per week. Group topics include: relapse prevention, anger management, spirituality, self esteem, gender issues, group therapy, family education, health, Seeking Safety, and medication management.
  • When referred, you may see a psychiatrist for evaluation and/or medication management.
  • Your primary counselor will work with you in making a treatment plan based on your needs.
  • The discharge planning process begins as soon as you are admitted.
  • You will be expected to participate in random drug screens.
  • You will be introduced to peer support programs [12 step programs such as AA, NA].
    What will I get while in the Intensive Residential Program?
  • You will get a better understanding of the nature of addiction and how to treat addictive illness.
  • You learn to identify and safely manage relapse triggers.
  • You will begin to learn the "habits" of recovery and how to keep yourself "on track".
  • You will learn to how and when to share feelings/problems with others.
  • You will learn self care: medical, dental, spiritual and mental health care.
  • You will try to find a safe and sober place to live.
  • You will be connected to another program to continue treatment after you leave.
