    What is Coventry House?
  • We are a live-in program for pregnant or newly parenting women who are striving to overcome problems with alcohol and/or drug abuse
  • We help recovering women become the best mothers they can be.
  • Whenever possible, women are encouraged to enter Coventry House prior to their delivery date - this improves the well-being of mother and her baby.
  • We can have up to 10 women (age 18 or over) and up to 12 children in the house at once.
  • The length of stay varies - but women generally stay at least 6 months and as long as 12.
    What help will I get at Coventry House?
  • You will receive one-on-one and group counseling related to your use of alcohol and/or drugs, mental health issues, parenting issues, and managing your feelings.
  • Coventry House uses a variety of methods and techniques to assist you in addressing your specific personal issues including gender responsive and trauma informed care, Dialectical Behavior Therapy [DBT], 12 step facilitation and many more.
  • You will work receive case management services - helping you apply for insurance, cash assistance, food stamps, and WIC.
  • You will learn parenting skills and ways to keep your baby safe and healthy.
  • We will help you manage your transportation to all appointments and AA/NA meetings.
  • You be assisted in finding a job or education, safe housing, and affordable daycare.
  • When referred, you may see a psychiatrist for evaluation and/or medication management.
  • Coventry House is a methadone friendly program, and several methadone clinics are located in Hartford.
    What will Coventry House expect of me?
  • We will ask you to go to all scheduled groups and activities.
  • We will ask you to list goals that you would like to achieve while you are at Coventry House and then work towards meeting those goals.
  • We will ask you to follow the house rules and to treat staff and other residents with respect.
  • You will also need to pay rent which will be based on your cash assistance.
  • Mostly we will ask that you keep an open mind and work towards becoming the best woman and the best mother that you can be.
    What will my life look like when I complete the program?
  • Most of the women who have completed the program at Coventry House have a safe place to live, affordable childcare, a part time or full time job, or are enrolled in school. Some have achieved high school completion while in the house.
  • Most have been clean and sober for over 9 months and are connected with AA/NA meetings and a sponsor.
  • Most women leave the program with the skills they need to remain clean and sober and to be a good mother.
