ADRC has earned the Joint Commissions' Gold Seal of Approval

The Alcohol and Drug Recovery Centers, Inc., (ADRC) HIV Program Counselor provides HIV education, risk-reduction assessment and counseling, including HIV testing, to ADRC clients. In addition, clients who are HIV+ will be seen by an HIV Counselor to develop a treatment and risk-reduction plan that includes referrals to medical support groups and Ryan White case management services. The goal of the program is to meet with as many "at-risk" clients to develop a treatment plan that is consistent with individual needs in order to reduce and/or eliminate risk for exposure to HIV, re-infection, or transmission to HIV to sex and/or drug-using partners.

The target population is clients who live in the Greater Hartford area and who are in treatment at one of the ADRC programs. These clients are identified by counselors, and/or clients may request a referral to the HIV counselor for services. In addition, the HIV counselor will seek out clients based on risk factors recorded in the client's chart. The type and frequency of each contact can range from 30 minutes to a 90-minute individual evaluation or group counseling session. Clients who are stabilized in outpatient or long-term programs can be seen over a several-month period to allow for more comprehensive treatment planning and follow-up care.
